Riverview
Elementary School (RvES) opened its doors to the students of Dawson
County in August 2010. Prior to this event, there was much planning and
time spent by many in the county. Mr. Nicky Gilleland was the
Superintendent of Dawson County Schools while the planning took place.
He along with the Board of Education took a comprehensive look at the
growth and future needs of the county. Mr. Gilleland explained that
growth projections showed this area to be a good site for future
schools. The Board of Education felt that by having a site capable of
containing an elementary, middle and/or high schools would be beneficial
and cost effective for the future. The land was purchased from Etowah
Water and Sewer Authority (EWSA). Teachers and administrators in
partnership with the Robertson/Loia/Roof architectural firm designed the
building. The design, which includes a centralized common area
containing the lunchroom, gym, media center and administrative offices,
is user-friendly.
On opening day, the administration,
faculty, and staff eagerly awaited students to enjoy our school with all
of its new sights and smells. To fully embrace the wonders of a new
school, we have acknowledged “Our Firsts”…first student to enter the
doors on the first day of school, first class to have lunch in the
cafeteria, first student to loose a tooth…. The “firsts” allowed
everyone at RvES to enjoy the excitement of Dawson County’s new school.
You will see familiar faces and new faces among Riverview’s faculty and
staff, which bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to provide high
quality instruction. We strive to provide a supportive learning
environment in which students feel encouraged and secure. Our programs
and facilities are specifically designed to meet the changing needs of
our students. All of this combined has helped us plan goals for the
academic accomplishment of our students.
Riverview is the
fourth elementary school in Dawson County, Georgia. It is located on
the hilltop off of Highway 9 above Riverview Middle School. Riverview
Elementary and Riverview Middle Schools received their names in memory
of a previous school in this area and for the river flowing just below
the schools. The river and surrounding forest create a scenic location
for learning. We welcome everyone to visit our school and enjoy the
vista of our great county.
