Dear Parents/Guardians,

Let me be the first to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year.  If you are new to our school, welcome.  I cannot wait to meet you.  If you are returning, welcome back!  I hope you are as excited as I am to begin this wonderful school year.  Even though it is the summer, I know our teachers have been thinking about planning, and getting ready for all they want to teach you this year.  Our students are lucky to have such wonderfully dedicated teachers.

For those of you who do not know, I am new to Riverview this school year. This is my 20th year in education and 8th as a principal.  I was drawn to Riverview due to the sense of community and pride.  Riverview has a reputation of academic success and a strong family culture.  These strengths will continue to flourish into the new year.

The hallmark of a great school is a strong parent support network.  We know that our work cannot be completed without you.  We ask that you partner with the school in any way you can.  Please consider joining our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) or school governance council.  If this is too much of a time commitment, there will be plenty of volunteer opportunities throughout the year.  Maybe you could volunteer at an event, help with a bulletin board, or assist a teacher in preparing a lesson.  There are many ways in which you can get involved in our school.  I Encourage and welcome it.  Your children will love to see you in the building, you will become more connected, and our school will continue to thrive.

On your drive up the hill, you may have noticed our sign, "Be the Spark."  This is important to us here at Riverview, as it guides our work.  SPARK stands for:
Service: Cultivate service oriented students
Pride: Instill pride in Riverview
Attitude: Expect a positive and Productive attitude
Respect: Have respect for yourself and others
Kindness: Demonstrate that kindness is contagious
We will talk much about being the SPARK and it would help if you talked about it at home too.  Talk about what it means to your child and how they can demonstrate some of the characteristics we talk about.

Once again, welcome/welcome back to Riverview.  I am looking forward to this new school year, as I hope you are too.

Sincerely,
Adam Maroney
Principal
